The organising committee of Worldcon – DISCON III – have decided to un-invite Toni Weiskopf as GOH – yes I said GOH at this year’s Worldcon – DISCON III because of the crap I alluded to the other day.
If any of you were planning to go please cancel and join a boycott of this year’s Worldcon – if any of you care acan you please make your displeasure know to these pathetic people as someone needs to stand up and stop this rubbish from spreading. Cancel Culture is the biggest threat to Western Democracy there is and it is time to take our liberty back.

Hello Mr. Rhodan, I’m a big fan of your series and very much looking forward to the next book. After reading your last two postings though I must respectfully disagree with your conclusions. I do agree that Mr. Sanford most likely did overstate the case against Baen Bar, as a certain spectrum of SJW tend to do, but at the same time I feel that your final conclusion that Cancel Culture is the greatest threat to western civilization is far off. Cancel Culture is a result of minority groups finally being able to have a voice in the affairs of government, business and culture. No longer is the theft and oppression of the Majority being blatantly allowed. Instead it is being openly called out. Conservatives tend to reject this because it threatens the identity they have of being the dominant group and being in charge. This is simply the end game established unknowingly by the enlightenment philosophers. Not just liberty and our natural rights for white males, but for all groups, genders and races. And that is seen as a threat. All of a sudden you cannot make derogatory remarks, you cannot cover up sexual harassment and all the little people are gaining a voice.
In response to your conclusion though I fear the greatest threat to western civilization is two-fold. The growing power of the East in China, and the collapsing of Democracies and Democratic norms in the West. Soon China will be able to exert their will not just military but economically, once that occurs they will be able to start rolling back the toe holds of western civilization in the East, S. Korea, Japan and the Republic of China specifically. When Japan is offered the ultimatum of U.S Troops leave or loose trade with China, who will the pick at that point? And that same economic might is growing in Europe with its new E.U-Chinese trade deal… Secondly, the thawing of democratic values and systems. And we in the U.S have just seen with Mr. Trump, more and more citizens of democratic nations are becoming disillusioned with the system, turning to con men, demagogues and dictators. While Trump failed in the U.S he still set the scene for the devastation of the Coronavirus and the destruction of the morality of the Republican Party, as well as trashing many democratic norms. In other countries such as Poland, Belarus and Hungary Democracy itself is being rolled back successfully in favor of One Party states. Poland has purged its judiciary, Hungary it media, Belarus its everything. If this trend was to continue our values and morals, western civilization itself would take a massive step back into the early 1900’s and the pre-war era. This is a far greater threat than people forced to not say racial and bigoted things.

I would be happy to debate civilly whenever I was in the mood, although some of your points I actually agree with although others not so much. The thing is that the Cancel Culture is not at all anything to do with Democracy despite them hiding behind that label.
Basically, Cancel Culture is about orthodoxy. They are not interested in civilised debate. They are about demanding all follow their beliefs or else be penalised – and the same goes for all you other people. And don’t dare put out any other beliefs that we disagree with or we’ll penalise you over that too. Believe what we tell you or else!
They are the 21st century answer to the Spanish Inquisition. They just haven’t moved to wracks and hot pokers yet. At the moment they limit themselves to getting people fired from their jobs or penalised in other ways.
I am with Voltaire – I might disagree with what you say but I will defend your right to say it.

Love your books! I agree mostly with your rants. However I think Critical Race Theory is even a bigger threat to democracy than cancel culture although you could argue they are one in the same. Our country and democracy is founded on the principle of free speech. Of course racism is real, but having travelled a lot I would contend we are the least racist of all countries and make the biggest social and economic commitment to diversity. The absurd leftist conspiracies of secret white racism are ideology not demonstrable fact. My great great grandparents we immigrants in the 1880’s. How am I as a white man part of a prividgled conspiracy. How is Abe Lincoln considered a racist by these loonies? Black racism is becoming a for profit industry and we need to apply a little common sense and fight the BS.
