Political comment

this is an unpaid political comment and is completely my own opinion from across the Pacific

The Democrats need to just forget about Impeaching Trump – it is a stupidly bad tactical mistake.
Here are my reasons:

1: A third of the country distrusts the Democrats already and will see any Impeachment – regardless of evidence simply as a case political sour grapes, grandstanding, petty vindictiveness and witch hunting.

2: The third of the population that support neither Democrats nor Republicans will see as probably politically driven sour grapes further eroding any belief the Democrats as being moderates and reasonable people – regardless of the evidence presented.

3: the third of the population who support Trump are just going to get angrier with the Democrats which only further inflame the situation and further deepen the cracks in US society.

4: Impeaching him will turn him from a buffoon into a martyr – regardless of the evidence. I can’t think of anything more likely to help the next Republican President get elected than an Impeachment Witch Hunt.

It would be far better tactically and for the long term benefits of the US for the Democrats to simply clench their fists and keep their mouths shut and let President Trump disappear into ignominy take the wind out of the right’s sails. Simply ignoring him from now on is a much better choice of action. Sure – if there are genuine criminal things that he or any of his administration can be charged with that’s okay but Impeachment is just too political to be of any benefit whatsoever.

Unfortunately I think the Democrat members of Congress will let their ego’s and pride get in the way of what is best for the United States.

AW ise man doesn’t start such debate son religion or politics, they always get…fractious 😉

    I disagree, strongly.

#1 A very serious crime has been committed: treason and sedition and that led to murder.
You are hoist by your own petard: what did Arturo do when Christians massacred other in their orgy of self righteous slaughter, hm?
    Same thing!
You CANNOT let such things go, it’s not like a football game, this was a serious attempt to overthrow the government, including the planned murder of many in it.
Also, interference in putting law enforcement and military shows this wasn’t a mere “mistake”

#2 A lot of today’s political corruption in America stems from letting Nixon get away with it.
By not impeaching Nixon, it said to ALL sides: “Thou shalt get away with it!”
And so everyone knew the Presidential Pardon and avoidance of actually implementing impeachment would protect their arses, be they Democrat or Republican.
    Thus spiralled ever worse abuses.
And while Clinton was a scumbag, the impeachment in that issue was ludicrous and self righteous hypocritical crap as everyone knew….if sexual scandals were the bar, half the damn Senators/Congressmen would be out on their asses

#3 Newt Gingrich in his unbelievable arrogance, his demand to win at ANY cost, broke the USA’s bipartisan “gentleman’s agreement” to work together for common cause.
This has to be renewed, to work together for the PEOPLE, not themselves, and this is such an issue.

#4 yes the Democrats cannot be trusted, they are gutless, run by the banker/corporates
Always amuses me when I hear folk claim they are “communists!”…what garbage
The Democrats are NeoLiberal Corporate stooges, more akin to the Mafia than Stalin
Dangerous and crap, yes, and lead to a sure slow destruction.
Look what they did to Bernie Sanders, one of the very few ACTUAL Left politicians in a role of higher power in America (and one of the few with brains or compassion)

but the GOP has gone down “Lunatic Alley” via “Fascist Central” and “WTF Are They Smoking Lane” ! 😛
Again one could go back to Nixon and Kissinger to show where the rot came in with the GOP
or even, with how Eisenhower left (possibly literally poisoned and politically crippled to get him out because the…”shadowy cabal” couldn’t control him, and went on to murder JFK and his brother, too amongst others.)
Reagan’s era was more steps away from Conservatism into…well, between deregulating the banks, nearly getting us all nuked and rise of the Christian zealots in politics…it wasn’t good.
Unfortunately the Left has had few folk of morals, ethics, vision AND courage, plus the “shadowy cabal” sure as heck wouldn’t let anyone in power who’d want peace!

note, I do not claim to know who/what the “shadowy cabal” may actually be, it’s just a label
cliques, cabals, intelligence agencies….various disparate groups and individuals rather than actual larger entities. Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap rather than “James Bond villains”
we’ll almost certainly never know who’s really pulling strings, sigh

So, today, the Republican Party has went WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY off the dep end 😦
Bringing in the Tea Party nutters to improve their standing compounded the problem
but, the rise of the Tea Party was due to their own AND the Democrat’s greed and BS
It was Nixon who “made nice” with the Chinese, and they ALL exported jobs to China
so the bankers and corporates could make profit AND scheme to control inflation and the Workings Class and slowly destroy the Middle Class, so the Elite could stay in power
hence, where we all are today (same goes for UK, too)

ordinary folk got mad as they were slowly robbed of wealth, health and pride, so rise of nationalism and populism, which are POISON
and, the media has been feeding everyone the “Mushroom Treatment” for 200 years and nowadays makes the Soviets look absolute bloody amateurs in how the Western media manipulates things 😦
an uninformed populace is a dangerous thing

Thus we have delusional, incompetent, cowardly sociopathic useless bloody leaders like Trump and Boris Johnson who have TOTALLY screwed things up 😦
they need ot be held accountable, they MUST be punished, lawfully, not by a mob

most folk still have no clue, not one whit about how bloody fragile things are nowadays, how close we are to seeing a “system collapse”, because of all this 😦

anyway, ahem, politics and religion…topics that stir things 😛

100% agree with rhodan – let Trump go, then hit him / his empire with criminal & civil charges. Whilst the hard line Trumpists will still cry ‘foul’ many more ‘normal’ people will accept the Courts view on Trump. Maybe…

      Problem is as said:
if there isn’t punishment for a POLITICAL crime, then it is seen by all that ANYTHING goes in *politics*
Which is what has led us to this moment 😦

if there are no consequences, then, folk will do what they damn please….

The civil and criminal charges for other acts are another matter, again, not “Political” per se
He must be lawfully broken in his standing as an elected official for political crimes, not just as a private person for conventional criminal and civil liabilities.
Treason and sedition are pretty damn extreme crimes.
If he had been more charismatic and smart, he would have succeeded in his coup!
Or rather, the mass murder of US elected officials, which was exaclty what was going to happen.
For that, he must be disbarred form office, first, and then barred from EVER holding office
It’s more than mere “pro forma”, it’s vital for justice to be seen to be done.

Or, we will see even worse, one day.
“Sides” do not matter, in this, if this was a Democrat, what would happen?
Folk would rightly scream bloody murder, same thing!
Good and Evil, Smart and Stupidity are absolutely Equal Opportunity Employers.

      1. The problem in all western democracies, well most anyway, is that the voters keep supporting the two party system. We all have politicians you look at and wonder how they fuck they got elected.
The got elected because people vote for a party regardless of the idiots actually representing them. Might as make Caligula’s horse a consul the good most of them do.
Unfortunately it is a natural progression in a democracy and will most probably eventually lead to things like the Syracuse Expedition, Sulla or Krystalnacht.

      peterrhodan

Well, getting rid of “First past The Post” systems would help
that’s what’s responsible for the two party systems today 😦

also, we must stop politicians AND OTHERS digging in
there must be no more re-elections, EVER
1 term only, though they can try for other levels of office
i.e., local, city, state, national and Administration

also, same for most offices of power
its way folk dig in, become corrupt, complacent etc that causes much harm

it’s very rare ot find someone who doesn’t become corrupted/complacent
and there’s not “test” for such

      as Lincoln rightly said
if you want to see the true character of a person, give them power….
“Power” is, IMHO, the most addictive, destructive and awful of all drugs

    1. that is a very narrow minded statement nor one I particularly understand.

I neither condemned Trump nor condoned him – I simply pointed the tactical options that seem to apply to the situation and possible long term results of various courses of action as they appear to me 12000 miles away.

Whether I am right or wrong in those opinions about outcomes is neither here nor there. I think you failed to understand what I was saying if you found it upsetting.

And whether anything I said was actually offensive or not is beside the point. I am entitled an opinion and as this article from the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen’s Magazine in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1922 says:
“If you deny to anyone else the right to say what you think is wrong, it will not be long before you will lose the right to say what you think is right. Defense of the freedom of others is self-defense. Voltaire stated this fact as a genius can: “I wholly disagree with what you say and will contend to the death for your right to say it.””

Please consider carefully the restrictions you place on the use of free speech. Whether at a personal level or at a public level. This is the sort of response that could in time lead to the 1933 book burnings.

    You are crazy.

The Democrats are busily censoring and banning all deplorables who they detest. Along with their minions in the press they want normal Americans to “go back to the Olive Garden.”

Shutting down dissent only adds to the pressure that now has no outlet.

If you hate Trump you should really be scared of who comes next.
