Dear Mr. Rhodan,
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the Arturo series! As a fan of both sci-fi and historical fiction, this series ticked all the boxes for me.
While I am sorry to hear there will not immediately be additional books in this series, I agree that Book 6 is a good place for a hiatus — time for you to find new information, and time for our New Romans’ government and culture to mature, and time for new technology to be developed!
I would love to learn more about why and how you decided to write the Arturo books — your research, and decisions on plot development. I’m far from being an expert on 5th century Rome, but have read enough to see connections with actual places and military protocol of that era.
While I am awaiting more Arturo, I will definitely be reading your new book!
Thanks!
Thank you for the kind words. I have always been interested in late Roman Britain – mostly due to childhood stories of King Arthur and Merlin. It is an interesting place – it remained very Roman for most of the 5th Century and into the 6th but with local influences regenerating and changing it before the Germans arrived and swamped it.
A lot of what I wrote about the Empire is supposition or simplification although I do have a BA in Ancient History from the University of Queensland and a fair understanding of the period. Or at least I hope so!
You will find a snippet from the opening chapter of the next book earlier in my blog.
Don’t worry – Arturo will return -there will be a book 7 and maybe a book 8 and then there is where he gets to when he finally gets a ship suitable to retrace his arrival in…….
