August update

Princess 2: The Princess & The Corsair is still on target to be released at the beginning of September.

I have finished the first draft of Princess 3: The Princess & The Rebels – just need to clean up a few bits and pieces then it will be off to the editor – aiming for a November release

Arturo 7 – yes! Arturo 7! I have started to write – don’t get excited as I have only just started – it is scheduled for a January release. At this stage I think there will need to be an eighth book as I don’t think I can cram everything into book 7 – I finally got a story idea and I don’t think it will leave a lot of room for gradual scientific updates etc. But then it might – as I said I have only just started and – just so you know – if I do need an eighth book – I have no idea what a story line for that would be.

I have send my contemporary Magic/Sci-Fi/Adventure/Romance/Alternate history book: A Sorcerer Arrives, off to Baen to see if they are interested as I have so many other things queued up – Princess 4 for March 2022 – Possible Arturo 8 would be May 2022 – Taroniah 1 (From Schooled In Magic 3) following that or maybe instead of Princess 4 – which then moves to July 2022 – Kyron the Bowman (contemporary to Taroniah on the far side of her planet) should follow Taroniah 1: Taroniah Learns ….
Baen quote 12-15 months to just look at submitted manuscripts!!!! But as you can see it would late next year before I would get to that book anyway.

What else? Raising Steam audio is still happening …. slowly

I have had a few family dramas the ;last 15 months – Mum died in March last year – then my sister in December and my father 2 weeks ago… it hasn’t been easy.
Trying to put an optimistic spin on things I can only say that my dad makes three so we should be good for some time now.

At least you didn’t make the mistake of talking about geosynchronous orbits over Canberra or anywhere off the Equator as other authors do. (They are clearly thinking of geostationary orbits and not realizing that such orbits are only possible over the equator and a geosynchronous orbit that passes over a specific spot on the globe will only do so once a day.)

However, when discussing gunpowder you left out charcoal as one of the important ingredients. Also, the specific type of wood the charcoal is made from is important.

In addition, I think a falling block rifle like the Martini-Henry would be much easier to manufacture than a bolt-action rifle, given that they are single-shot rifles.

In general I have enjoyed your books, but I have had to ignore certain statements that imply women are absolutely the same as men, which ignores the fact that males have, on average 90% more upper body strength than women and 60% more lower body strength than women. Thus, less than 10% of women could compete physically with the average male, and given that women generally have much better things to do with their lives than compete with men …

    1. as to the last paragraph – I would estimate that 50% of males had more body strength than me – in my age bracket – that is a fallacious argument in so many ways – but just using your numbers in a population of 100,000 (Britannia 420 probably has more by now) and at a rough estimate 30% of males are between 18-40 (30,000) and an equivalent number of females are int he same age bracket and 10% of them want to serve but need to match the guys then 3,000 at your 10% is still 300 or 3 centuries worth. In practice I would estimate probably 20% of females would be suitable and bear in mind that the females in that period – especially farming types – would be significantly stronger than women today – and then ad in firearms and strength becomes less of an issue unless you are a serious male egotist.
As far as weapons go – yes you are right – but Arturo is using his memory not an book of historical weapons. He can remember bolt action files from his brief WW1 lecture. there are several other things that he has missed or could have done which have been raised by people over the 18 months since I first published On The Rocks.
As to the orbit – thank you – Geostationary over the equator will be it for Princess book 4 – many thanks. I will have to update another book where an alien battlething is in a stationary position over a particularly site but in it’s case it could simply sit there over Canberra or Washington or wherever because it has the tech to do so. I need to highlight the disrepency in the text now though. Thanks πŸ™‚
“That’s no moon” type of moment – except this one looks like a moon.
I wasn’t aware I hadn’t mentioned charcoal…. hmmmm noted. I mentioned charcoal in the iron working stuff… hmmm

Yes, you did mention charcoal in respect of iron working and discussed the move to coal and then coking coal.

Here is an idea for how to move the series forward. Feel free to discard it, modify it or whatever.

Someone in Arturo’s original timeline (ie, 5,000 years in the future of 400AD) starts to notice anomalies because Arturo is changing the future.

Using the clues they have (and perhaps others before them have noticed anomalies) they send a ship back to investigate. Perhaps they are off by time or location because they did not get the acceleration/deceleration correct.

Thus you can introduce conflict between what Arturo achieves in 400AD England/Rome and the interstellar empire.

  3. That is a nice idea but Arturo is in an alternate universe, not his original timeline – something he perhaps hasn’t quite realized or accepted yet and which will become apparent when he tries to go home and he ends up somewhere else….. πŸ™‚
Plus the Roman Empire he revitalizes appears in another book set in the present day that I have submitted to Baen (no great expectations they’ll pick it up) for which I have about 160k more words written for future books at some point.
Oh, and if you have read the Princess books well book 4 might have something of interest (not Arturo)
